From underneath the trees, we watch the sky
Confusing stars for satellites
I never dreamed that you'd be mine
But here we are, we're here tonight
Singing Amen, I, I'm alive
Singing Amen, I, I'm alive
[Chorus:]
If everyone cared and nobody cried
If everyone loved and nobody lied
If everyone shared and swallowed their pride
Then we'd see the day when nobody died
And I'm singing
Amen I, Amen I, I'm alive
Amen I, Amen I, Amen I, I'm alive
And in the air the fireflies
Our only light in paradise
We'll show the world they were wrong
And teach them all to sing along
Singing Amen, I, I'm alive
Singing Amen, I, I'm alive
(I'm alive)
[Chorus]
And as we lie beneath the stars
We realize how small we are
If they could love like you and me
Imagine what the world could be
If everyone cared and nobody cried
If everyone loved and nobody lied
If everyone shared and swallowed their pride
Then we'd see the day when nobody died
When nobody died...
[Chorus]
We'd see the day, we'd see the day
When nobody died
We'd see the day, we'd see the day
When nobody died
We'd see the day when nobody died
Why this song relates to the theme of the play:
"Tough Love," is one of the themes in the play that greatly relates to this song. In the beginning of the song, it says "I never dreamed that you'd be mine." Because Romeo and Juliet come from two rival families, they never could have dreamed that they would fall in love. Also, the balcony scene can be compared to "But here we are, we're here tonight," when Romeo and Juliet are together confessing their love. The fact that a Montegue and Capulet are in love with eachother is a huge problem. Another part of the song states, "If they could love, like you and me, imagine what, the world could be." It's saying that if the two families could possibly love each other the way Romeo and Juliet do, it would be amazing. Finally, the most important part is the chorus. "If everyone cared and nobody cried, if everyone loved and nobody lied, if everyone shared and swallowed their pride, then we'd see the day when nobody died." It means exactly what it says. If the two families would care for eachother then Romeo and Juliet would have literally never died.
